History of the Esports World Cup
The Esports World Cup was first held in 2024 in Riyadh. The tournament evolved from and expanded upon the Gamers8 festival, which had previously been held in Saudi Arabia.
The first EWC featured competitions across 22 esports disciplines. The tournament program subsequently expanded: in 2025, the EWC included 26 tournaments across 25 disciplines, while in 2026 it featured 25 tournaments across 24 disciplines.
One of the key features of the EWC is the Club Championship, an overall ranking in which clubs earn points based on the performance of their rosters across different games. The winner receives a separate championship title and a significant share of the prize pool.
Team Falcons won the Club Championship in 2024 and 2025. In 2026, the Saudi club once again topped the overall standings, earning 5,200 points and $7 million in prize money. Team Liquid finished second, while Team Vitality took third place.
