About the Bangladesh Premier League

The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is a professional franchise-based T20 cricket tournament in Bangladesh. The competition has been held since 2012 under the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and features both domestic and overseas players.

The league's team lineup and structure have changed over the years. Different franchise teams representing cities and regions of Bangladesh have taken part in the tournament.

2026/27 Season

The 2026/27 Bangladesh Premier League was initially scheduled to take place from 15 January to 14 February 2027. These dates are no longer valid.

On 20 August 2026, Bangladesh Cricket Board president Tamim Iqbal confirmed that the BPL would not be held during the 2026/27 season. The decision followed financial losses, issues involving franchises and regulatory problems in recent editions of the tournament.

The BCB plans to review the franchise model, financial arrangements and tournament management before bringing the competition back. Tamim Iqbal said the board does not want to rush the process and intends to relaunch the BPL after its structure has been reviewed.

Therefore, the Bangladesh Premier League 2026/27 will not take place, and no dates for the next edition have been officially announced.

History of the Bangladesh Premier League

The first BPL season was held in 2012. The tournament was established as an annual domestic T20 competition built around franchise teams and became part of Bangladesh's professional cricket system.

The number of teams and competition format have changed across different editions. The BPL has also attracted international players and provided a platform for Bangladeshi cricketers to gain experience in franchise T20 cricket.
