About the Bundesliga
The Bundesliga (the Fußball-Bundesliga) is a professional football league among German clubs. There are 18 clubs in the Bundesliga. The championship runs from August to May according to a relegation and promotion system. All Bundesliga teams participate in the DFB-Pokal. The winner of the tournament qualifies for the DFL-Supercup.
Bundesliga: 2026/27 Season
The 64th season of the German Bundesliga will begin on August 28, 2026, and end on May 15, 2027. The German top flight will feature 18 clubs, with each team playing 34 matches — home and away.

Participants in the 2026/27 Season
The 2026/27 Bundesliga season will feature 18 teams. The participants include reigning champions Bayern Munich, as well as Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, Eintracht Frankfurt, Stuttgart and other leading German clubs.
Following the conclusion of the 2025/26 season, the lineup changed: FC Köln and Hamburger SV returned to the Bundesliga, while St. Pauli and Holstein Kiel were relegated from the top flight.
History of the Championship
The history of organized football in Germany dates back to the 19th century. The German Football Association (DFB) was founded in 1900 and became a FIFA member in 1904.
Before the creation of a unified national league, Germany had numerous regional championships. The Bundesliga was founded in 1963 to establish a unified professional championship for the country.
The first Bundesliga season was held in 1963/64, with 1. FC Köln becoming the first champions.
The most successful club in the history of the competition is Bayern Munich, which has won more Bundesliga titles than any other German club.

In the 2025/26 season, Bayern Munich once again became German champions. The Munich club reclaimed the title after Bayer Leverkusen won the championship in the 2023/24 season.
