Who Will Compete?
The final entry lists for the 2027 Diamond League meetings will be confirmed closer to the start of the season. Athletes' participation is announced progressively by the organisers and individual meetings.
The 2027 season is expected to attract many of the world's leading athletes, including reigning champions, world record holders and major international medalists. Among the athletes who could feature prominently are pole vault world record holder Mondo Duplantis, middle-distance superstar Faith Kipyegon and other leading performers across the main Diamond League disciplines.
The 2027 season will also take place shortly before the 2027 World Athletics Championships in Beijing, scheduled for 11–19 September. This makes the Diamond League meetings particularly significant for athletes preparing for one of the year's biggest international competitions.
How Is the Diamond League Winner Decided?
Athletes earn points during the qualification meetings of the Diamond League season. Their results determine which competitors advance to the final.
The final is the decisive event for the overall title. Athletes who qualify compete for the Diamond Trophy, meaning that winning an individual meeting does not automatically make an athlete the overall Diamond League champion.
History of the Diamond League
The Diamond League was launched in 2010 as the successor to the IAAF Golden League. While the Golden League was largely focused on major European athletics meetings, the Diamond League was designed from the beginning as a global competition.
Since its creation, the series has expanded across several continents and has become one of the most important annual competitions in international athletics. Its meetings regularly feature Olympic champions, world champions and world record holders.
In 2019, the series entered into a title partnership with Chinese conglomerate Wanda and adopted the official name Wanda Diamond League.
Over the years, numerous world and national records have been set at Diamond League meetings, while many of the sport's biggest stars have won Diamond League titles.
