Italian Grand Prix: Formula One

The Italian Grand Prix is one of the oldest stages of the Formula One World Championship. Along with the British Grand Prix it has been run continuously since the very first Grand Prix and continues to this day. All Italian Grand Prix races are held at Monza Circuit except for the Italian Grand Prix in 1980 which was held at Imola Circuit.

Italian Grand Prix 2027

The race is scheduled to take place in September 2027 at Monza. The exact race weekend has not yet been officially confirmed by the Formula 1 calendar. Preliminary calendars and ticket packages currently list September 3–5, 2027, but these dates should be treated as provisional until the official F1 schedule is published.

Formula 1 has extended its agreement with Monza through 2031, securing the Italian Grand Prix’s place on the championship calendar for the coming seasons. The 5.793-kilometre circuit features 11 corners, with drivers spending around 80% of a lap at full throttle, making it one of the fastest tracks in Formula 1.

History of the Italian Grand Prix

The first Italian Grand Prix was held in Brescia in 1921. Monza was completed in 1922 and soon became the main venue for the Italian race. Since the first Formula 1 World Championship season in 1950, the Italian Grand Prix has been held at Monza every year except 1980, when the event moved to Imola while Monza underwent renovations.

The 2026 edition produced a historic home victory as Kimi Antonelli won the Italian Grand Prix after starting from 19th on the grid. George Russell finished second and Max Verstappen third. Antonelli became the first Italian driver to win the Italian Grand Prix in 60 years.
