The BRICS Sports Games is an international multi-sport event that brings together athletes from many countries. The competitions are organized by the BRICS member countries. Today, BRICS includes the following countries: Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Iran, UAE, Egypt and Ethiopia. The main goal of the competition is to strengthen friendly sports relations between the countries.

BRICS Sports Games 2026

In 2026, sports cooperation among the BRICS countries will continue under India’s chairmanship. As part of the BRICS programme, new sports initiatives are planned, including the BRICS Games of Traditional and National Sports. The event is proposed to take place on October 12–13, 2026, in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India.

Unlike traditional multi-sport competitions, these Games will have a strong cultural and demonstration focus. Their main goal is to preserve and showcase traditional sports and national sporting practices from BRICS countries, while strengthening cultural ties between the participating nations.

Dates and Venue

The 2026 BRICS Games of Traditional and National Sports are scheduled for October 12–13, 2026. The event will be held in Ahmedabad, India.

The programme will focus on traditional and national sports from BRICS member states. Participants will have the opportunity to showcase their countries’ sporting traditions, exchange experience and take part in joint activities.

In 2026, India holds the BRICS chairmanship. In August, a meeting of BRICS sports ministers was also held in Visakhapatnam, where participants discussed the development of sports cooperation, technology, innovation and new joint projects.

History of the Competition

The BRICS Sports Games were created to promote sports cooperation among the member states of the association. The first official BRICS Games were held in 2017 in Guangzhou, China, while the 2018 edition took place in Johannesburg, South Africa.

From 2019 to 2021, the traditional competitions were not held, while sporting events were organised online in 2022. In 2023, the BRICS Games were held in Durban, and in 2024 Kazan hosted the largest edition at that time, with athletes competing in 27 sports.

In 2026, BRICS sports cooperation will continue to develop. Alongside traditional sporting events, particular attention will be given to national and traditional sports, sports technology and the exchange of expertise between member countries.

BRICS Sports Games 2027

Information about the format, dates and venue of the BRICS sporting competitions in 2027 has not yet been published. Decisions regarding future sports projects will be made as part of the BRICS chairmanship and joint activities of the member states.
