Chinese Grand Prix 2027: What We Know
The exact date of the 2027 Chinese Grand Prix has not yet been officially confirmed. According to some tour operators, the race is provisionally scheduled for March 12–14, 2027. However, China could take place later in the season, depending on the final Formula 1 calendar.
China is also being considered as a possible season-opening race in 2027 if the Grands Prix in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia cannot be held as planned due to the situation in the Middle East.
The race will take place at Shanghai International Circuit. The 5.451 km track combines long straights, technical corners and heavy braking zones, creating opportunities for overtaking.
History of the Chinese Grand Prix
The first Chinese Grand Prix was held in 2004 at Shanghai International Circuit. Ferrari driver Rubens Barrichello won the inaugural race.
The event was held every year from 2004 to 2019 before being removed from the calendar due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Chinese Grand Prix returned to Formula 1 in 2024, and in December of the same year, Shanghai secured a contract extension through 2030.
Lewis Hamilton holds the record for most Chinese Grand Prix victories with six wins. Other race winners include Fernando Alonso, Max Verstappen, Nico Rosberg and Rubens Barrichello.
