2026 World Table Tennis Championships
The 2026 World Table Tennis Team Championships took place from 28 April to 10 May 2026 in London, United Kingdom. This centenary edition returned to the city where the first World Table Tennis Championships were held in 1926.
The event was staged across several venues, including Copper Box Arena and OVO Arena Wembley, and became one of the largest table tennis tournaments in the history of the United Kingdom.
Tournament Format
The championships featured 64 men’s and 64 women’s national teams.
The competition included a group stage, after which the top teams advanced to the knockout rounds. The final stage was played in a single-elimination format to determine the world champions.
2026 Results
Men’s Team Event
The world champions were China, who defeated Japan in the final.
Women’s Team Event
China also won the women’s team title, defeating Japan in a closely contested final.
Thus, China achieved a “golden double”, winning both team events.
History of the Championships
The first World Table Tennis Championships were held in December 1926 in London. The tournament was originally planned as a European championship, but after players from India participated, it was granted world championship status.
Over time, the programme expanded to include women’s and doubles events. Since 1959, the championships have been held every two years.
