About the Race of Champions
The Race of Champions (ROC) is an international motor racing event for the world’s best drivers, held annually at the end or beginning of the year. It is the only motor racing event that includes competitors from Formula 1, IndyCar and NASCAR as well as touring car and motorbike racers.
2027 Season
The 2027 Race of Champions remains uncertain. Organizers have not yet announced the field or location of the tournament. However, the competition format will likely remain the same: stars from various motorsport disciplines, from Formula 1 to rally and touring car series, will participate, and the key intrigue will be based on a level playing field for all drivers.
The key feature of the ROC remains unchanged: the same technology, where the decisive factor is not the car, but the driver’s skill. This is why potential participants are traditionally considered to include both current top drivers, motorsport veterans, and young talents. The winner is usually the one who adapts fastest to different types of cars and tracks.
When will it take place?
The official dates for the 2027 Race of Champions have not yet been confirmed. Historically, the tournament is held in the winter, most often in January or February, but the organizers will announce the final calendar and location later. Therefore, information about the dates and location remains open at this time, and updates should be monitored separately.
History of the Race of Champions
The first Race of Champions was organised in 1988 in honour of deceased race driver Henri Toivonen. Since then, the race has been held every year with the exception of a few occasions. The winner of the race receives the title “Champion of Champions” and the Henry Toivonen Memorial Trophy.
From 1992 to 2003, the race was held in the Canary Islands. Afterwards, the format of the event changed slightly and since then the locations of the races have changed every year, e.g.:
- 2003 – 2004 – Saint-Denis, Paris, France;
- 2007 – 2008 – Wembley Stadium, London, England;
- 2009 – Beijing National Stadium, China;
